Velja is a browser picker for macOS that decides where links should open. Set it as the default browser, then send each URL to a preferred browser, a particular browser profile, a native desktop app, or an interactive prompt where you choose the destination.

Rules make the routing automatic. A work link clicked in Slack can open in a Chrome work profile, an internal site can go to Firefox, and Figma, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams links can open in their corresponding desktop apps. Velja can also clean tracking parameters from links before opening or copying them.

Where it fits

Velja fits people who use multiple browsers, maintain separate work and personal profiles, or frequently move between websites and their native Mac applications. It replaces the habit of copying a link, opening another browser, selecting a profile, and pasting the address manually.

Velja handles links passed through the macOS default-browser system. Links clicked inside an existing browser normally stay in that browser unless you invoke Velja through its browser extension or share tools. Browser limitations also prevent it from selecting Safari profiles, and some applications do not reliably identify themselves as the source of a link.

Privacy and requirements

The current Velja release requires macOS 26 or later. The developer provides older versions for macOS 12 through 15, but those builds do not run on newer macOS releases. Velja is sandboxed and its privacy policy states that it collects no personal information. Anonymous crash reports are sent to Sentry to help diagnose bugs.

Removing tracking parameters can reduce information attached to outbound URLs, but it does not prevent the destination website, chosen browser, or native application from collecting data under its own policies. Expanding shortened URLs also requires contacting the shortening service.
