CleanShot X is a Mac screen-capture tool that replaces the built-in screenshot workflow with capture, annotation, recording, sharing, and reference tools in one app. The key difference is its quick-access overlay: after a capture, you can save, copy, drag, edit, pin, or upload it without first hunting for a file.
It is useful for bug reports, product feedback, documentation, demonstrations, and social images. Capture a region or scrolling content, mark the important part, then send the image or recording where it needs to go while the context is still fresh.

The optional Cloud account is not required, but it changes where shared material lives. A simpler built-in tool may be enough for occasional captures, while ScreenFloat may suit a workflow centered on persistent visual references.
Privacy and requirements
CleanShot requires macOS 13 or later and needs Screen Recording permission; microphone, camera, or Accessibility access is needed only for features that use them. Captures can remain local, while CleanShot Cloud receives files that the user chooses to upload. Cloud use is optional for the Mac app, and sensitive desktop items should be hidden or excluded before recording.
