ActivityWatch is useful for personal time audits, attention analysis, and reconstructing a workday without sending the history to a hosted tracker. It requires more setup and interpretation than a manual timer. Automatic titles and URLs can also capture sensitive context, so exclusions and retention deserve deliberate attention.

Data is stored locally in SQLite and is not uploaded by default. The local ActivityWatch API has no authentication and is not designed to be exposed to a network or shared multi-user machine. Stable Mac releases support Intel; Apple-silicon builds may be marked pre-release, so check the download label for the current architecture.
